Taking Off the Blinders
Most doctors treat pain with blinders in hand, only focusing on where you have symptoms. Our doctors take those blinders off, choosing instead to look at the whole picture, focusing on the whole body and not just the site of your pain.
Pain is your body's alarm system, letting you know that something is wrong, and ignoring it is a big mistake. However, focusing only on the location of pain also is a mistake.
One "Car"
It’s sad, but true. Most of us take better care of our cars than we do our bodies. Let’s put it into perspective:
Imagine if you were only allowed one car for your lifetime. What would you do if the check engine light came on? Would you act on it or ignore it? If you had a flat tire, would you choose a mechanic who would just patch it, inflate it and send you on your way? Or would you want one who would fix the flat, rotate those tires and correct the alignment of the car?
The fact is, we only get one body. But we have forgotten to take care of it. We let the stress of life outweigh the value of keeping ourselves well. We have allowed our specialists to get so specialized that they have forgotten that our body works as a whole.
Example: Us vs. Them (knee pain)
It’s common for a person with knee pain to see an orthopedic surgeon (them). The typical visit consists of a brief examination of the painful joint, followed by x-rays. Many times, the conclusion is simply that you’re wearing out. "What did you expect? You’re not getting any younger."
The "Them" treatment may include:
- pain/anti-inflammatory medications
- injections
- and/or the option of an eventual knee replacement surgery
Looking beyond the main complaint is out of the question… If you happen to have hip pain as well as knee pain you often will be met with "we will have to schedule a separate visit to look at that; today we are just going to focus on the knee." Adhering to this narrow-focused evaluation will almost guarantee the continued loss of your body’s function. While your pain may decrease, the opportunity for you to really fix the problem disappears. You’re just biding time, driving down the road, ignoring the check engine light.
Our Difference - Taking the Blinders Off ("Us")
Now let’s look at the approach we take at Solley Health First Chiropractic. We don’t just focus on the painful area. Welook at the body as a whole. We start with your posture, noting any instability at the ankle, the knee, the hip, the pelvis, all the way up to the head, neck and shoulders. This postural evaluation leads us to perform specific orthopedic tests looking at all of your "weak" links. This initial and simple look at the body provides our doctors with a road map to follow, identifying the hidden reasons as to why your “tires” are wearing down.
Solving the Problems Without Drugs or Surgery
Our solutions are based on correcting mechanical problems while supporting good health with natural approaches to exercise and nutrition. No Drugs and No Surgeries.
In the case of the knee we would:
- work with stability in the foot and ankle
- suggest a change in the style or size of your shoe,
- work to stretch and teach you to stretch the muscles of the hips and pelvis
- work to create balance in the muscles and joints of your body
Bottom Line:
This is not a “what do you expect, you’re getting old” approach; It is a Sports Medicine approach that treats everyone in a fashion that breathes life into the body, No Matter Your Age.
Our Goal: Simply Put We Want to Make You Become Better.
