What causes trapping of nerves?
Muscles that are tight, bones that are arthritic, postural muscles that are weak, tendons that are thick, joints that are swollen, and discs that are herniated... these are all potential causes of numbness.
Patients can have these sensations, or lack of sensations, almost anywhere in the body from the tip of head, to the tip of nose all the way down to tips of their toes. While irritating, these sensations can often times be managed through a conservative care approach.

Our Doctors Can Help!
At Solley Health First Chiropractic, our doctors as much as any other health care specialists are able to track down the causes of these problems and come up with solutions to fix them. Why? Because they know the body's anatomy inside and out, and through a thorough orthopedic and neurologic examination they can identify the exact locations where these nerves have become trapped. (and once we find it, we can start fixing it!)
Examples:
Numbness in hand? Can be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Ulnar nerve entrapment, disc injuries, arthritis, poor posture, “referred pain” or any combination.
Numbness in the leg? How about piriformis syndrome, meralgia parasthetica, spinal stenosis, peroneal nerve entrapment…
Numbness in the foot? Again disc herniations, tarsal tunnel syndrome... all big names, but all also nerves that are mechanically trapped.
What can be done?
Once we find the source of the trouble then we go to work. First we work to remove swelling and inflammation. This can be done using "modalities" like therapeutic ultrasound, mechanical traction, electric stimulation, and more. Next, we restore normal mechanics using exercise and chiropractic manipulation. Last, we work with simple nutritional advice to make the nerve heal as fast as possible and to get you back on to your healthy life.
Warning!
There are things that cause numbness or tingling that are more serious and even life threatening. These include stroke, heart attack, thyroid disease, and others... Our first job is to rule out these more serious causes before proceeding with conservative care. If you are not candidate for our care, we will refer you immediately to another health care provider who can help! Numbness? No problem! Our doctors specialize in treating a wide range of problems that cause numbness. This is not a magic cure but instead over 25 years of experience, over 25 years of results.
